London's festivities for New Years Eve 2007 will be focused on a free fireworks display at the British Airways London Eye which will light up the Thames at midnight to mark the start of a new 2008.

Like last year it will be accessible to all and many are expected to watch from the Embankment.

Best Place to View

People will start arriving at 8.00pm and it will start getting crowded from 9.30pm onwards, so best to get there for 9.00pm.

Westminster bridge and the North embankment, opposite the London Eye, are the best places to see the display.

The display lasts 15 minutes from midnight and will be visible from many parts of London and will also be on television.

The Organisers

The show is commissioned by London Mayor Ken Livingstone and the GLA and is produced by Jack Morton Worldwide.

The fireworks are being designed and executed by the French company Groupe F supported by local Kent based company, Phoenix Fireworks.

Groupe F, lead by Christof Berthonneau, are globally known as the experts behind the recent Athens Olympic Games opening and closing ceremonies, and the Eiffel Tower for the millennium celebrations.

Phoenix Fireworks are providing English pyrotechnicians, explosive transport and storage.

Facts of 2006-7 Display

  • The display is fired using three computers, has 3 barges in front of the London Eye, each stacked with fireworks.
  • A team of 30 pyrotechnicians worked from Boxing Day right up to New years eve.
  • The fireworks mounted on the wheel are cold burn, self susuming fireworks designed not to damage the London Eye or capsules in any way

Transport:

The tube will run all night on New Year's Eve and will be free between 11:45pm and 4:30am, making it much easier for people to get home safely wherever they are celebrating. Many thanks to sponsors NatWest.

The congestion charge will be suspended so you will not have to pay to drive into central London from Saturday 23 December to Wednesday 2 January.
