Overview

A half day course for public firework display organisers or anyone commissioning a fireworks display.

In the current climate of safety consciousness and litigation, the course give the organiser an idea of safety issues that need to be addressed specifically for fireworks displays.

It is intended to make organisers aware of their legal responsibilities and to ensure that the event takes place safely.

It demystifies how firework safety is assessed and uses practical examples of recent displays for delegates to gain hands-on experience.

Who will benefit

Event and display organisers at local authorities, corporations, large-scale entertainment venues and event companies.

Skills gained

On completion of this fast paced course the delegate will have:

  • Greater awareness of firework safety implications for their display site

Knowledge of key firework safety aspects and risk minimisation
  • Practical experience of using and checking a risk assessment
  • Supplier assessment checks to ensure they are fully compliant with public safety requirements

Course Workshop

The final part of the course is a workshop that gives delegates the task of assessing a real life public firework display of some 100,000 people that involves large areas of potential public exposure covering fireworks fired on land, cranes, boats and with flame-throwers and pyrotechnic devices attached to expensive buildings.

Delegates will put into practice what they have learned in the course and apply the relevant processes. This practical hands-on approach will bring to life the concepts learnt and assist committing it to memory.

The exercise covers nearly all the types of firework risks an organiser will encounter and is a great case history to examine.
